Linha 22 prides itself on its careful selection of wines, and Carlos is very knowledgeable about the producers and their wines.
One case in point is Bulas Wines, who create a range of table wines and Ports from two quintas on the north bank of the Douro at the mouth of the Ceira River, between Régua and Pinhão, in an area where wine production has been documented since 1256. The south-facing exposure helps to create complex, intensely flavoured wines, many of which are available by the glass or for sale in bottle at our café and merceria.
In 2015, Bulas’ 20 Year Old Tawny IWC Gold Medal Winner but took home the 20 Year Old Tawny Port Trophy from the prestigious International Wine Challenge held in London. The IWC judges tasting note makes mouth-watering reading:
Caramel, brown sugar, orange peel, vanilla custard with fig, raisins and toasted nuts. Develops in glass. Long and exciting finish.
Bulas 20 YO Tawny was one of the Port wines Carlos recently served at Linha 22’s third anniversary celebration and it was equally a joy with both chocolate cake and freshly roasted chestnuts.
But in this case there is more to the story than just the offering of a wonderful wine. Bulas has created an exclusive bottling of its 20 Year Old Tawny for the University of Porto, which is for sale only at the University of Porto’s own shop and at Linha 22, where you can also enjoy it by the glass. The handsome label, unique to this bottling, states:
Specially bottled for the Oporto University, noble institution of the City of Oporto, connected since its foundation to Port Wine and the region.
Visit Linha 22 to enjoy a glass of this wonderful 20 Year Old Tawny, or any of the table or Port wines produced by Bulas.
